Metro Nashville Police Recover Massive Load of Narcotics, including 18,000 Fentanyl Pills, from Donelson Apartment

Metro Nashville Police recovered a large haul of illegal drugs and a loaded weapon Thursday evening at a Donelson apartment while following up on a routine service call.

“BREAKING: Narcotics detectives today recovered 2 lbs of fentanyl powder, nearly 18k pressed fentanyl pills, 2.7 lbs of meth, 3.5 lbs of marijuana, an AR pistol loaded with 30 rounds, & a kilo press, ALL from a Donelson area apartment,” Metro Nashville Police posted to Twitter along with photos from the recovery.

“Detectives were called to the apartment by @NashSheriff deputies who were on the property serving a civil court order,” the department tweeted in a follow up post. “No one was home at the time. The investigation continues.”

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50-100 times stronger than morphine, according to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Pharmaceutical fentanyl was developed for pain management treatment of cancer patients, applied in a patch on the skin. Because of its powerful opioid properties, Fentanyl is also diverted for abuse. Fentanyl is added to heroin to increase its potency, or be disguised as highly potent heroin. Many users believe that they are purchasing heroin and actually don’t know that they are purchasing fentanyl – which often results in overdose deaths. Fentanyl is a Schedule II narcotic under the United States Controlled Substances Act of 1970, the DEA notes.

The “crucial” and “likely lifesaving” recovery, as the department put it, was made with help from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation highly encourages anyone who observes suspicious drug activity, such as drug distribution, drug use or drug manufacturing, to report it to the Tennessee Dangerous Drugs Task Force by filling out a form on their website or by notifying a local law enforcement agency by dialing 911.
